As if Manchester United finishing outside of the top 4 this season hasn't given the people of Leeds enough to laugh about recently, this June sees the Leeds Comedy Festival return for week-long laugh-riot's third year.
From June 4th - 11th, a host of huge names will be appearing at The Wardrobe, HiFi Club and Milo, including Milton Jones, Richard Herring, Stephen K Amos, Nick Helm, Phill Jupitus, Paul Foot, Robin Ince, Justin Moorhouse, and loads more - 40 performers in total.
Organised by Leeds Comedy promoter Toby Jones, the festival started off at The Wardrobe in Leeds’ Cultural Quarter, and has big plans to increase capacity year on year and make the festival imperative in the comedy touring circuit in years to come.
This year headliners include the Welsh comedian Milton Jones, who will be bringing his 'Gold Mining in Progress' show to Leeds, as well as one of the leading hidden masters of modern British comedy Richard Herring, Star of BBC 1’s Uncle and 8 Out Of 10 Cats guest Nick Helm plus multi-award winning television personality Stephen K Amos.
Also performing at the festival will be the wonderfully weird Paul Foot, who will be previewing his upcoming Edinburgh Fringe show ‘Tis A Pity She’s A Piglet’ at the Wardrobe, as well as Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ Phill Jupitus, while over at the Hifi Club, ‘The Now Show’ contributor Mitch Benn will be performing his acclaimed ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’ show. Milo’s will play host to a number of excellent comedians, including Ellie Taylor and Carl Hutchinson, who will both be performing previews of their upcoming Edinburgh Fringe shows.Toby Jones, festival organiser considers it to be "a big step up from last year and we are well on course with our long term aim of becoming the largest comedy festival in the North of England. We hope that this year’s programme has something for everyone as we have included magicians, live podcasts and chat shows, comedy competitions and family shows together with some of the most exciting stand-up comedians in the country”"
